Management of Water and Flood Incidents (Mod 5)

The Management of Water and Flood Incidents (MWFI) course is tailored for personnel tasked with providing advice or commanding at tactical or operational levels during water and flood incidents. It is designed to equip incident commanders and advisors with the essential knowledge and skills required to effectively oversee operations in challenging water and flood-related incidents.

While it is not expected that students will possess the same technical expertise as specialist water rescue teams, it is crucial that they have a sufficient level of specific knowledge to manage the event effectively. Additionally, they must possess adequate personal skills and experience to safely operate in the active ‘warm’ zone during these incidents. The course covers water and flood-specific incident command considerations, as well as rescue, evacuation, and search strategies. It also delves into single and multiple incident scenarios to comprehensively prepare commanders and advisors. This course is DEFRA compliant to Module 5.

If you already hold a Rescue 3 Swiftwater and Flood First Responder (SFR) qualification you can complete the MWFI in 4 days. If you don’t hold the SFR pre-requisite, you will need to complete the 5-day MWFI course.

Core course content includes:

  • Management of river and flood searches
  • Guidance and best practice documents
  • Multi-agency command and control considerations
  • Team typing and deployment of national assets
