Water Awareness and Safety

Water Awareness and Safety (WAS) is a classroom-based course that examines the hazards and risks associated with inland waters (lakes, canals, rivers) and coastal areas.

The course includes fundamental safety protocols and practices to enhance workers’ comprehension of water hazards and mitigate the risk of accidental immersion. This training targets individuals needing awareness of basic safety measures but who do not engage in work near or in water. Typically, these workers are not provided with water-specific PPE or tasked with operations near water bodies.

The comparable course for personnel supporting rescue teams is the Water and Flood Awareness course.

Core course content includes:

  • Workplace legislation
  • Risk assessments
  • Water hazards
  • Accidental immersion considerations
