As our Equipment and Maintenance Technician, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services by ensuring our equipment, vehicles, and facilities are maintained to the highest standards. This is a hands-on, operationally focused position based at our training school in North Wales, with occasional travel required to support off-site training, consultancy and equipment sales.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Maintain, inspect, and prepare PPE and technical rescue equipment for at height, water, and confined space use.
  • Manage inventory levels, asset tracking, and digital records using internal systems to monitor servicing, usage, and inspections.
  • Coordinate the servicing, repairs, and compliance documentation for the organisation’s vehicle fleet.
  • Undertake routine building and grounds maintenance tasks across the premises and cleaning of the vehicle fleet.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and functional training and storage environment.
  • Driving company vehicles to move equipment, deliveries, staff and clients.
  • Liaison with maintenance contractors and cleaners.
  • Support instructors and consultants with logistics, equipment preparation, and vehicle loading/unloading for training and consultancy activities.
  • Assist with procurement, liaise with suppliers, and coordinate the delivery and servicing of equipment and consumables.
  • Conduct regular safety checks, follow company procedures, and ensure documentation is accurate and audit-ready.
  • Oversee the responsible disposal of expired or damaged equipment and support environmental best practices.

Essential Qualifications/Experience/Skills

  • Previous experience in an equipment, stores, or maintenance support role.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Apply a methodical and structured approach to workload.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude and practical skills.
  • Proficient computer user (Office 365) and experienced in using inventory or asset tracking systems.
  • Hold a Full UK driving licence with no penalties/endorsements

Desirable Qualifications/Experience/Skills

  • Familiarity with PPE and rescue equipment used in height, water, and confined space operations.
  • Practical inspection experience with PPE.
  • Experience supporting training delivery or operational deployments.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance scheduling or fleet coordination.
  • First Aid qualification.

R3 Safety and Rescue is seeking a technical expert to join our team as a Senior Technical Rescue Instructor. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop training courses for a renowned safety and rescue training provider.

Our safety and rescue training solutions span a range of technical disciplines – working and rescuing at height, water and flood, and confined spaces. As a Senior Instructor, you’ll play a key role in advancing our mission to protect lives and promote safety by delivering high-quality, customer-centric training solutions.

The role would be based at our training school in North Wales; however, we do deliver training off-site, and this often requires week-long trips away. You should expect to be away for up to 14 days each month. Occasionally, travel or delivery on weekends is required. Any applicant should carefully consider this before applying.

  • Deliver high-level training at operator, technician, and specialist levels in at least two disciplines—rope, swift water, or confined space—across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East.
  • Deliver high-level Train the Trainer courses for operators, technicians, and specialists in at least two of the following disciplines: rope, swift water, or confined space.
  • Customise training programmes to meet the specific requirements of emergency services and private sector professionals, ensuring relevance and real-world application.
  • Lead course design and development of bespoke training courses tailored to high-level organisations, maintaining alignment with the latest industry trends and standards.
  • Refine and enhance course content by continuously updating course materials to incorporate the latest rescue techniques and standards, ensuring our training remains cutting-edge.
  • Provide expert technical guidance as a subject matter expert, delivering technical advice and hands-on instruction to ensure adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
  • Mentor and coach other instructors and trainees, fostering their development and ensuring the consistent delivery of top-quality training across the board.
  • Collaborate with key industry partners to strengthen relationships and enhance rescue techniques and safety practices.
  • Engage in industry groups and forums, helping to influence and shape best practices and safety standards in the rescue field.
  • Represent R3 Safety and Rescue at industry conferences, workshops, and events, showcasing our leadership and expertise in technical rescue.
  • Deliver impactful presentations, workshops, and live demonstrations to highlight R3 Safety and Rescue’s expertise in the technical rescue industry.
  • Create educational resources and contribute to the development of instructional videos, written materials, and other resources to expand and enhance R3 Safety and Rescue’s training offerings.
  • Ensure all materials and courses meet the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant certifications, regulations, and standards to ensure training remains compliant and effective.
  • Continuously assess training effectiveness through feedback and performance metrics, making necessary adjustments to maintain high-level outputs.
  • Collaborate on logistics with the training team to plan and organise schedules, venues, and equipment, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery of training.
  • Regularly update your knowledge on the latest rescue technologies, equipment, and techniques to keep R3 Safety and Rescue’s training ahead of the curve.
  • Participate in ongoing development to maintain your expertise in emerging rescue trends and technologies.

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in two or more safety and rescue disciplines (rope, swiftwater or confined space).
  • 5+ years of experience delivering high-level technical rescue training in two or more safety and rescue disciplines (rope, swiftwater or confined space), including training the trainer.
  • Extensive knowledge of rescue techniques, standards, and best practices within one of the following sectors: industrial, fire and rescue, mountain rescue.
  • A strong understanding of safety regulations, including relevant UK and European safety standards.
  • A dynamic and engaging trainer with excellent communication and instructional skills.
  • A passion for staying at the cutting edge of rescue technologies and techniques.
  • A proficient computer user. You must be able to develop professional presentations and training materials within Microsoft.
  • First Aid and AED certification.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • A full UK driving license with no penalties or endorsements.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience 

  • Rescue 3 rope, water or confined space specialist Instructor Trainer or equivalent.
  • Operational experience within any of the following: UK SAR, private SAR, or emergency service sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of the UK Search and Rescue sector.
